6, 9 & 12 Player Game Modes

How board size changes the game, and which mode is right for your group.

How board size changes the game, and which mode is right for your group.

PlayWerewolf supports multiple board sizes so you can play with a small friend group or a full party.

9-Player Classic

The standard experience. The board is:

  • 3 Werewolves
  • 3 Villagers
  • 1 Seer
  • 1 Witch
  • 1 Hunter

This is the recommended mode for new players. It has enough special roles to create drama, but not so many that the village becomes chaotic.

6-Player Mode

A faster, more intimate game. The smaller board reduces the number of special roles and werewolves, so every vote matters. Bluffs and early reads decide the game quickly.

12-Player Mode

The party size. More players means more noise, more alliances, and more room for werewolves to hide. Expect longer discussions, wilder accusations, and memorable betrayals.

AI bots can fill any empty seats, so you do not need a full lobby to start.
